2001 jeep grand Cherokee laredo My reverse Will not work?
I have 2001 Jeep grand Cherokee Laredo. I been driving this vehicle for for a year. My reverse went out one night after working fine all day. I i drop trans pan and metal was all in it including what looked like a snap ring. So i buy a used tran with 13000 miles, and i put it in. get everything back together and it runs great except the REVERSE still does not work!! Please help!!

It sounds like the problem is further up than the actual transmission. You may need to crack open the actual drive selection unit (on my jeep it's in the center, I assume it is for yours too). It kind of sounds like you need to see if the reverse selection option was taken away by a stripped gear or mechanical blockage.

the previous answer is correct, either your tranny ecu is throwing off a fail code that prevents it from engaging reverse and you will have to get that reset, or when reverse gear failed something is getting in the way of the shift mechanism. just pop the cover on your shift unit and see if you can trace the whole linkage to the tranny to see if everything is fine. also, shift one by one through each gear and see if the lights for park, reverse, drive, and so on light up fine and if you feel a click when you reach each gear.

I answered your other question but thought you would also like to know that rent is very low in Laredo and houses are not that expensive if you are planning to buy. It is very inexpensive to live there compared to other places in Texas and the country.
