98 cherokee laredo selec-trac operation?
Hi all I just bought a 98 laredo from a friend to use as a winter driver, however im not sure how to work the 4x4. Do I put into a 4x4 gear while in park? Also what kind of 4x4 should i use in which situation? Rain? Snow? Ice?

The selec trac is a shift on the fly system and can be shifted while moving at speeds up to 55mph. Use 4wd full time for snowy roads with bare spots, 4wd for only snow or ice covered roads, no bare spots. 4wd does nothing in the rain, keep it in 2wd (or use the 4wd full time option for if it makes you feel better).. http://www.wjjeeps.com/tcases.htm#SELEC

About: 1999 Jeep cherokee Laredo

1999 Jeep cherokee Laredo?
Hi I'm interested in Jeep Cherokee Laredo Sport utility, 60k miles... I have my doubt on it being a good vehicle - I don't want problems to start with it as soon as I buy it. Does it reallly drink up a lot of gas? (I haveto drive about 50 miles every day to work...) I have also read about problems with the transmission, and starting up. Help please- ! thanks to the forum!

I've got a couple of friends that have Grand Cherokees Laredo and never got "big" problems, but did their respective maintenance. One of them is well over 100k miles. Gas wise, they say that on highway they get about 22MPG or so, sometimes a little more. So considering the size of the vehicle, I would say is pretty good efficiency. In any case, if you are worried more about the gas consumption I would stay away from SUVs and get a car such as Nissan Sentra, Toyota Corolla and others that get well over 30MPG on highway
