What model numbers will work when replacing a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 PCM (Computer)?
I have been having some trouble with my 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo so I have decided to change the PCM. The computer that was currently in there had the model number 56044407AC. I purchased another computer but it had a slightly different model number. The model number on the one I have ordered is 56044406AD. This computer was advertised saying it would fit my model and everything. Will it work even though the one I had before has a different model number?

No you cannot do that. On 1996 and newer Chrysler vehicles, including your jeep, the vehicle VIN is written into the PCM and ABS modules upon installation and cannot be changed. Even if you get a PCM from an exact vehicle match it wont work because the ABS module will not see the correct VIN in the PCM and will cause all kind of problems. Unless you are talking about a re-man PCM in which case it will have to be programmed by your dealer before it will function properly. And i hope it's a Mopar re-man. I've never seen anyone have any luck with aftermarket PCM's. Best of Luck!
